KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation said construction on Alcoa Highway will impact traffic starting Monday.
The construction will go Moday through Wednesday. Contractors will do rolling roadblocks on Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail.
Each roadblock will last about 20 minutes and be spaced out to allow traffic to return to normal flow between operations. The rolling roadblocks will be intermittent Monday and Tuesday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. On Wednesday, the rolling roadblocks will between 9 a.m. to noon due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Crews will also be conducting flagging operations on the ramp from northbound Alcoa Highway at the traffic signal at Cherokee Trail and along Cherokee Trail between the Alcoa Highway interchange and Medical Center Way. These operations will take place during the same hours and days as the rolling roadblocks.
The schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Drivers should expect delays.
Alcoa Highway brings travelers to and from McGhee Tyson Airport and adventurers take it on their way to the Great Smoky Mountains. Construction began on improvements to the road in July 2023 and the first phase of those improvements is expected to last until 2025.
