ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — Roane County Office of Emergency Services and Homeland Security are on the scene of two brush fires in the median of I-40 East.
The Tennessee Division of Forestry and multiple Roane and Cumberland counties fire departments are also on the scene.
The Tennessee Highway Department of Transportation initially reported the fire as a "police activity" in the Cardiff Valley Road area Friday afternoon.
Three brush fires were initially reported but crews have since extinguished one of the fires. Officials said they are now working on fires two and three between the MM 345 and MM 347 areas.
Traffic is backed up for several miles. Please use caution in these areas to allow a safe working zone for fire personnel.
