UPDATE Feb. 2: Temperatures remain below freezing in most of East Tennessee on Tuesday morning. While main routes are fine in most of the lower elevations, TDOT crews are treating streets in some of the higher elevations.
Patches of snow and ice were reported on primary roads by crews in Cocke County and Sevier County. TDOT crews are salting and plowing where needed.
Some slick roads were also reported in Campbell, Claiborne, Morgan, and Scott counties, and those are also being treated.
TDOT only deals with interstates and state routes, so secondary and back roads could also be slick in those areas where snow continued overnight.
According to TDOT, all counties in the lower elevations experienced snow bands through 3 a.m. However, travel was never interrupted in the valley.
Mountainous counties received some accumulation overnight.
TDOT crews will continue to plow and treat routes as forecasts are showing chances for additional accumulation throughout the day. Some crews are on standby and others are monitoring road conditions.
UPDATE Feb. 1: The snow is falling on parts of East Tennessee, but so far there are no reports of dangerous road conditions on primary streets.
Crews from the Tennessee Department of Transportation reported to work across the region at midnight to begin monitoring road conditions.
So far, only light snow is falling, but TDOT said most counties are still slighting above freezing for both ambient and roadway temperatures.
More snow and colder temperatures are expected throughout the day. Larger amounts are expected to fall in the higher elevations of East Tennessee, including the mountains and Cumberland Plateau. You can get the latest forecast here.
The rain ahead of the snow made it tough to pretreat roads, so crews will treat them as needed on Monday.
