TDOT: Construction project could impact traffic in Greene County and Cocke County

TDOT warned that motorists in Cocke County and Greene County could face more traffic than usual as crews work on a road construction project.

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation said Tuesday that motorists in Greene County and Cocke County that traffic in the area could be impacted by an upcoming construction project.

They said State Route 35 would be closed at the intersection of State Route 160 and Old Greeneville Highway starting on June 20, stretching to just west of the intersection of St. Tide Hollow Road and Old Greeneville Highway.

They said by closing the road, crews will be able to work on a construction project to tie in the existing State Route 35 to a proposed State Route 35 and Newport bypass. They said a temporary detour will be in place to direct motorists through the work zone and onto Old Greeneville Highway.

They said this traffic pattern is expected to be in place until December 2023, contingent on weather conditions throughout the project. Drivers should make sure to use extreme caution as crews work on the project.
