GATLINBURG, Tenn. — U.S. Highway 441, or Newfound Gap Road, is temporarily closed from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to Cherokee, North Carolina, due to snow and ice.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park said Foothills Parkway West, the new section, is also closed temporarily due to snow.
10News will continue to monitor road closures in the Smokies and will update this article as more information becomes available.
Moisture will begin to spread in from the south until 9 a.m. and for the Southern and Central Valley, that precipitation will likely begin as light rain showers.
As the air continues to cool, we will likely see that rain transition to a rain/snow mix, eventually becoming all snow by around 10 a.m. for areas along and south of I-40.
The Plateau and Smokies should see snow for the duration of the event.
This system will take its time moving across the region so the snow is expected to last through the afternoon, gradually tapering off during the evening from west to east.
