KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said two people were injured in a car crash on I-40 West late Thursday afternoon. They said they suffered "major injuries.
Officers said they responded to the crash in the downtown area at around 4:40 p.m. According to reports, one of the cars drove across the media from I-40 East and hit another car while it was driving on I-40 West.
Police said the drivers of both cars had to be pulled out by the Knoxville Fire Department. They also said there were no other occupants in either of the cars.
No other injuries were reported, police said.
After the crash, the highway was briefly closed down while crews worked at the scene. It was reopened by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
