KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said they would be staying extra vigilant over the Memorial Day Weekend to prevent dangerous driving.
They started "conducting high-visibility traffic enforcement" on Friday and said officers would be on the road through Monday. During that time, they were watching for dangerous drivers and working to prevent serious crashes.
On Tuesday, they released data about their traffic enforcement. They said they investigated 31 crashes in total and ten of them involved injuries. However, they said there were no fatal crashes.
They also said they issued 287 warning citations and made eight arrests for DUI. They also issued 362 citations, according to KPD.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation also said they would suspect all construction-related lane closures on interstate and state routes from Friday through 6 a.m. on Tuesday. By not closing any lanes, they hoped to make sure there is room on the roads for one of the busiest travel days of the year.
