KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Saturday night on I-40 East near the Holston River Bridge, Knoxville Police said.
Officers responded to the scene around 6:55 p.m. where a Ford F-150 had crashed into the center median. The driver, currently unidentified, had suffered at least one gunshot wound, KPD said.
A man who was seen running from the truck has been detained and questioned by officers. Detectives are investigating a report of an altercation involving the Ford F-150 and the occupants of a white Jeep which allegedly fled the scene, officials say.
According to KFD, the victim has been transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with critical injuries.
No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. Detectives are urging anyone with information concerning the shooting to contact East Tennessee Crime Stoppers anonymously at 865-215-7165.
