WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. — A child and woman died and at least one other child was injured after two vehicles crashed in Whitley County, Kentucky on Tuesday.
According to Kentucky State Police, the two vehicles crashed on Bee Creek Road/KY 1193 outside Corbin in Whitley County around 7:35 a.m.
Troopers are still investigating but said preliminary details showed an SUV was driving southbound on the road before it crossed over the center line and hit a car.
A child in the SUV suffered severe injuries and was first taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Whitley County. The child was supposed to be flown to the University of Kentucky Children's Hospital, but the Air Evac helicopter had to divert to Saint Joseph London Hospital due to their serious condition. The child was later pronounced dead by the Laurel County Coroner's Office at 9:48 a.m.
A second child inside the SUV was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center and later released.
The driver of the SUV was also treated and released, KSP said.
Troopers said the driver of the car was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville with severe injuries. She later died from her injuries and was pronounced dead by the Knox County Regional Forensic Center at 10:21 a.m.
Another child in the car was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center and later flown to UKCH with injuries that weren't life-threatening.
Several agencies responded to the crash. KSP did not say if any charges would be filed yet.
