JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tennessee — Traffic was backed up for miles on I-81 North and I-40 East in Jefferson County on Wednesday after a semi-truck crash.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said I-81 North had to be closed around 9 a.m. to clear the truck from the interstate. A few lanes later reopened, and TDOT said it expected all lanes to be clear by 10:15 a.m.
The crash was reported around 3:30 a.m. at mile marker 3, which is just past the I-40/I-81 split to Asheville and the Tri-Cities.
Traffic was backed up for miles on the northbound side, which also backed up traffic on I-40 East at the split.
