TDOT: I-75 South backed up for miles after wreck involving three vehicles near Rocky Top

There's no anticipated time for the road to fully reopen due to an investigation and cleanup, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said.

ROCKY TOP, Tenn. — Update (9 a.m.): The Tennessee Department of Transportation said one lane of I-75 South near Rocky Top has reopened after it was closed for an extended period Wednesday morning after an overnight wreck.

The wreck, which involved two commercial vehicles and a passenger vehicle, happened at 2 a.m. There was a fire as well, according to TDOT. 

The closure began at mile marker 128. Traffic was being diverted until the left-hand lane was reopened Wednesday morning. 

Traffic remained backed up for miles past Caryville on the southbound side.

There's no anticipated time for the road to fully reopen due to an investigation and cleanup, according to TDOT.
