KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (9 p.m.): One person died after a crash on I-40 West near Pellissippi Parkway on Thursday.
Police said an SUV was slowing down due to traffic and was rear-ended by a black pickup truck. Two other cars were hit after the initial crash.
KPD said the man driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries, and no one else was hurt.
All lanes of I-40 were reopened Thursday evening.

Traffic was backed up on Interstate 40 for miles after a serious crash at the Pellissippi Parkway exit, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the crash happened on westbound I-40 at Pellissippi Parkway around 4:00 p.m.
Three lanes were closed on the westbound side as of 4:30 p.m. and traffic was backed up for miles on both sides.
"Officers are working a serious crash on I-40 West near I-140. Three lanes are blocked. Expect delays and seek alternate routes if possible," KPD said.
