JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Charges are pending for one of the drivers involved in a multivehicle crash that happened on I-40 West in Jefferson County Thursday morning, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 8:27 a.m. Three cars were involved.
The first car, driven by Jose Alvarado from Maryland, and the third car, driven by Herson Maltez from Minnesota, was traveling in the first lane. The second car, driven by Avila Anthony Acosta, was traveling in the second lane, according to the report.
Alvarado made an "improper lane change" and crashed into Acosta in the left front end. Alvarado then started to skid and overcorrected into the right front tire area of Maltez's car, causing him to veer off the road and roll several times.
One of the passengers in Alvarado's car, a 17-year-old, was ejected onto the road.
The crash resulted in the westbound lanes being closed for a few hours. Officials waited for a medical helicopter to take the two injured.
