Gay Street bridge to close from 6:30 to 8:30 Wednesday night

Drivers should use either Henley Street or James White Parkway to cross the river. Detour signs will be up to help drivers get around the closure.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Gay Street Bridge in downtown Knoxville will be closed to traffic for a couple of hours on Wednesday night.

According to a press release from the city, the closure on Oct. 9 will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. 

Drivers should use either Henley Street or James White Parkway to cross the river. Detour signs will be up to help drivers get around the closure.

City trolley and bus service will also be impacted by the closure.

  • The Red Line of Knox Area Transit’s free trolley will cease running at 6:30 p.m. and resume its route from Regal (101 E. Blount Avenue) after the bridge reopens. 
  • KAT Bus Route 40 will detour onto Church Avenue, make a left on Henley Street and resume its regular route using Blount Avenue onto Sevier Avenue.
