KPD: 19-year-old UT Lacrosse player dies after crash on Chapman Highway

Michael Fulcher was traveling southbound when he went into the northbound lane and struck an SUV head-on, the Knoxville Police Department said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 19-year-old died after a motorcycle wreck on Chapman Highway Sunday night, according to KPD.

KPD said the motorcyclist, Michael Fulcher, was traveling southbound when he went into the northbound lane and struck an SUV head-on. The SUV then hit another car driving southbound. 

Fulcher died due to his injuries. An occupant of one of the other cars received minor injuries, according to KPD.

Fulcher was a player on the UT Lacrosse Team. 

"It’s with tremendously heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of one of our own. Michael Fulcher - known as “Big Mike” to the team - tragically lost his life last night," a post on the UT Lacrosse Instagram account said. "He was always ready to do whatever he could wherever he could, with all he had."

The crash remains under investigation by KPD.
