APD: 3 taken to hospital after wreck on Alcoa Highway near Pellissippi Parkway interchange

ALCOA, Tenn. — UPDATE 9/9 at 10:29 a.m. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle remains in critical condition at UT Medical Center, APD said. The driver of the struck vehicle will be released from the hospital today and the passenger has already been released. 

UPDATE: 9/8 at 6:10 a.m.  The cause of Saturday's crash has been identified. 

According to the Alcoa Police Department, officers were alerted Saturday about a wrong-way driver traveling south on Alcoa Highway. The collision occurred in the northbound lane of Alcoa Highway near Pellissippi Parkway.

The wrong-way driver was an adult male and was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in critical condition. The struck car two contained two adult males who were also transported to UT Medical Center with injuries. 

9/7: The Northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway near the Pellissippi Parkway interchange will be closed for several hours after a car crash, according to the Alcoa Police Department.

"The Alcoa Police and Fire Departments are on scene now working the crash," APD said. "Please find alternate routes, as traffic is being rerouted through this area."

APD said it would provide updates on the wreck as more information became available.
