ALCOA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation said a crash on Alcoa Highway backed up southbound traffic for miles on Friday.

The crash was reported at around 3:55 p.m. Eastern Time, according to TDOT. It closed a lane of the road, and TDOT said traffic was backed up for miles to near Montlake Drive — just past the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

By 5:45 p.m., TDOT said the crash was mostly clear and traffic was flowing after all lanes reopened.

A spokesperson for Alcoa said three vehicles were involved in the crash. One vehicle overturned and a person was taken out of the car, before being transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. It was cleared by 4:25 p.m.

Additional information, such as whether any injuries were reported and the circumstances surrounding the crash, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
