TDOT: Crews work to repair I-640 in Knoxville after large number of potholes

One lane of traffic will remain open as crews work to improve the road conditions. Motorists should expect delays, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Expect delays on I-640 in Knoxville on Wednesday, Jan. 4, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

A large number of potholes in both directions have formed after heavy rain hit the area on Tuesday, TDOT said.

The potholes are in areas that were previously shoulder areas but have now shifted to traffic areas for construction, according to TDOT.

These areas will be paved with hot mix asphalt due to the number, location and warm weather expected on Wednesday. This is taking place to hopefully remediate any deficiencies in the roadway, TDOT said.

One lane of traffic will remain open as crews work to improve the road conditions. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes, according to TDOT.
