TN expecting $25 million to prevent spread of Asian carp in state waterways

Experts said the new funds could create three to five barriers, which are viewed as the best way to manage Asian carp.

Four Asian carp species (Silver, Bighead, Black and Grass) were first found in the Mississippi River, where they are still abundant, and they migrated into Tennessee waters via locks at Kentucky and Barkley dams.

TENNESSEE, USA — The effort to manage and prevent the spread of Asian carp in Tennessee waters continues now with extra funding.

The Tennessee Wildlife Federation is expected to receive $25 million as part of a bill passed by Congress on Monday, Dec. 21. 

The president is expected to sign that bill.

Experts said the new funds could create three to five barriers, which are viewed as the best way to manage Asian carp.
