LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — The Lenoir City Utilities Board will host a public hearing on Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. about plans to offer broadband internet services and build a fiber-optic network in the area.
According to a release, the LCUB developed a business plan to expand its electric system and to start providing internet services in its service area, including availability in areas outside of Lenoir City. Officials said the expansion will cost around $22 million.
They said the business plan could result in net losses from the first 3 years of operation, but then start profiting in all future periods. LCUB said it will pay a portion of the costs for the fiber-optic network, and they said they anticipate using inter-division loans to cover the other costs.
Additional information about the broadband expansion, such as the cost of subscribing to the service, was not immediately available.
The public hearing meeting will be at The Venue at 7690 Creekwood Park Boulevard. It will last until 8 p.m. and people will be able to learn more about the plan during the meeting.
