KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee men’s basketball earned a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region of the NCAA tournament on Selection Sunday. The Vols will play 15-seeded St. Peter’s in the first round, a team that shocked the college basketball world last season with its unexpected elite eight run.
Tennessee point guard Zakai Zeilger knows a familiar face on this Peacock team: his younger half-brother Armoni Zeigler, a freshman. UT was projected as a No. 2 seed after its loss to Mississippi State in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament, but the location was always in question. The two brothers played on the same team in high school, but now, they will face off in Charlotte for a chance to advance in the tournament.
Armoni is 6’4 compared to his 5’9 older brother, who is known for playing around his size. Armoni is the only true freshman on the Peacock’s roster, and in his first season, he averaged 6.4 points per game, along with 29 steals and a SportsCenter top 10 appearance for an insane dunk he had against Manhattan.
The two brothers face off on Thursday, March 21, in the first round of March Madness in Charlotte, N.C. The tip-off is TBD.
