KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Football jumped to No. 8 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings, announced on Tuesday night. On Saturday, the Vols came up with a 56-0 shutout win against UTEP in Knoxville.
Although UT was ranked No. 11 last week, Tennessee was the first team out because CFP rules would award the five highest-ranked conference champs a bid.
Now, Tennessee is back in the playoff running and looking to stay one of the top teams when Selection Sunday rolls around Dec. 8. The only thing standing in the Vol's way is a trip to Nashville on the road against in-state rival Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Tennessee is one of four SEC teams in the rankings. Alabama and Ole Miss both dropped out and fell to No. 13 and No. 14 after the Crimson Tide lost to Oklahoma in Norman and the Rebels fell to Florida in Gainesville this past weekend.
In the Big 10, Indiana also fell from No. 5 to No. 10 after the Hoosiers' first loss of the season against No. 2 ranked Ohio State.
Oregon held its spot at No. 1, and the top 12 teams in the rankings are as follows:
(SEC teams in bold)
- Oregon
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Penn State
- Notre Dame
- Miami
- Georgia
- Tennesse
- SMU
- Indiana

The final CFP rankings before Selection Sunday on Dec. 8 will be revealed a few days prior on Dec. 3 from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
