The University of Tennessee is rolling out a new "clear bag" policy for all its athletic venues.The move limits what fans can bring into games.
Starting in August 2016, each person will only be allowed to have one clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a one-gallon, clear, resealable plastic storage bag. Fans will also be allowed a small clutch purse not larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
Some of the items banned by the new policy includes backpacks, fanny packs, purses, reusable grocery totes, camera cases, diaper bags, cinch bags, and colored plastic storage bags.
Fans will still be allowed to bring in seat cushions, so long as there are no arms or pockets.
All football season ticket holders will receive one complimentary bag per household, thanks to a partnership with UT Athletics, Visit Knoxville, and Coca-Cola.
According to UT, the SEC has mandated the new "clear bag" policy to take effect for the 2017 year, but UT and several other schools decided to make the change early.
UT stresses the move will help enhance safety and expedite fan entry at Tennessee venues.
Fans can bring the following items inside athletic venues, provided they meet the size requirement:
- Cushions or seats without arms or pockets
- Small bags with medically necessary items, subject to search
- Diapers and non-medically necessary items for babies and young children must be carried in a clear bag.
- Small cameras, cell phones and binoculars
Fans will be able to buy approved clear bags at the Official Team Store at Neyland Stadium and VolShop locations.
