COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Tennessee men's basketball was upset on the road Saturday night against Texas A&M by a final score of 85-69.
Texas A&M was benefitted early from knocking down some three-pointers. Wade Taylor IV made three of the team's four three-pointers early to give the Aggies an early 16-8 lead.
Dalton Knecht stopped the momentum a little. UT was down 18-11 and he scored on a four-point play. He sunk a three-pointer and was fouled. He made the free throw to draw Tennessee to down three. However, shortly after, Manny Obaseki made a three-pointer for the Aggies to extend the lead to 21-15.
That ended up being the start of a 9-0 run capped off with another Taylor IV three-pointer as Texas A&M went up 27-15.
After Zakai Zeigler hit t a free throw, Taylor IV hit another three-pointer to put the Aggies up 30-17.
The Aggies held a 42-28 lead at halftime. They sunk eight three-pointers, with five of those coming from Taylor IV who had 15 first half points. Tyrece Radford scored 12 for Texas A&M in the first half. Meanwhile the Vols struggled on offense as they shot 33.3% from the field.
The scoring in the second half, Solomon Washington splashed in another three-pointer and the lead extended to 45-28. They got up by as may as 22 points in the second half. The lead ballooned as Tennessee struggled on offense to start the second half, not scoring in the first 4:32 of the half.
UT made a move and trimmed the lead to 12 after Zeigler scored on a layup to make it 66-54 and later Zeigler hit a three-pointer to once again trim the lead to 12 one more time at 59-57. UT never got closer than that.
Radford finished with 27 points and Taylor finished with 25 points for Texas A&M.
Knecht finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. The Vols shot 37.1% from the fiield.
The Vols play another road game on Wednesday against Arkansas. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m.
