Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava sets UT record for passing yards in a half

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — As the hype for Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava builds, he delivered in the first half on Saturday.

The redshirt freshman threw for 314 yards in the first half against Chattanooga, setting a program record for most passing yards in a half. The previous record was set by Tyler Bray in 2012 against Troy. He had 313 yards.

Iamaleava was very good in the first half. He completed 22 of 28 passes and threw for three touchdowns. He started the game with 15 of his first 16 pass attempts going for completions.

Donte Thornton and Bru McCoy were his favorite targets as he set the record. Those two combined for nine receptions and 194 yards.

Iamaleava completed quite a few passes for big gains. That included a 59-yard connection with Thornton and one for 37 yards with McCoy.

Iamaleava is the fourth Vol quarterback to throw for 300 yards in a half.
