KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee pitcher Zander Sechrist signed with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. Billy Amick is the other Vol headed to Minnesota. Amick was drafted by the Twins on Day 1 of the selection process.
In his final year as a Vol, Sechrist had a 6-1 record with a 3.12 ERA. He pitched 78 innings for the Vols where he had 76 strikeouts and only allowed 16 walks.
His best game of the season came against Florida State University to send the Vols to the College World Series Finals for the first time since 1951. He allowed just two runs and five hits over a career-high 6.1 Innings of work. He was also pivotal in Game 2 of the NCAA Tournament Super Regional against Evansville pitching 6.1 innings and allowing only one run.
