Tennessee football's path to still claim the SEC East

The Vols will need to beat Missouri. Then they need help in another game, plus a little more to happen next weekend.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — If Tennessee wants any shot at the SEC East title, they must win against Missouri this weekend.

No. 13 Tennessee is hitting the road to take on No. 14 Missouri in a top-15 matchup.

UT currently has two losses in SEC play, so to catch No. 2 Georgia, who remains undefeated, they must win out in their final three conference matchups against Missouri, Georgia and Vanderbilt.

Furthermore, they need Georgia to lose to No. 9 Ole Miss this weekend. That would give them one loss in SEC play, then UT would need to hand them another next weekend inside Neyland Stadium. That would make both Tennessee and Georgia have two losses atop the SEC East conference standings, which would give Tennessee the tiebreaker for hypothetically beating the Bulldogs.

If this happened it would give the Vols a berth to the SEC Championship game, which they haven't played in since 2007.

Tennessee plays Missouri at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Georgia and Ole Miss play at 7 p.m. in Athens.
