KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football jumped from No. 14 to No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released Sunday afternoon. The rankings come after a week two overwhelmingly dominant 51-10 win against NC State in the Duke's Mayo Classic.
Tennessee was last ranked in the top 10 in 2022, and the team was not ranked in the top 10 at all last season.
The Vols climbed seven spots from last week's standings, and five SEC teams are sitting in front of UT, including Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Missouri in that order. This is the first time in the 88-year history of the AP Top 25 poll that six of the top seven teams are from the SEC.
On Saturday, the Vols will return home to play Kent State for a week three matchup. The game is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. inside Neyland Stadium and will be televised by SEC Network.
