KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On Monday, Tennessee defensive back Cristian Conyer announced on social media that he has entered the transfer portal. Conyer has three years of eligibility remaining in his college career.
“I have entered the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining,” Conyer said on X. “I’d like to thank Coach Heupel and the University of Tennessee for the chance to play in the SEC. I appreciate the support of the coaching staff, my teammates and fans. Thank you, Vol Nation!”
Conyer was a three-star prospect when he first announced his commitment to Tennessee football in 2022. The 6-foot 1.5-inch tall prospect was listed as the fourth-best recruit in Kentucky by 247Sports and the 56th-rated cornerback in the class of 2023.
As a true freshman, he appeared in 10 games, recording just one solo tackle. The Bowling Green, Ky. native is one of four Tennessee players to enter the portal in the spring window. Linebacker Elijah Herring, cornerback Malik Ganaway, and defensive lineman Camron Douglas are the other three Vols.
There was a chance for Conyer to have a more significant role after several defensive backs entered the portal after the 2023 season, but Tennessee did a lot of digging in the offseason to recruit other transfers like Oregon State’s Jermod McCoy and Temple’s Jalen McMurray, who will likely have to take on a big responsibility in 2024.
