KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 7 Tennessee beat Wofford 82-61 on Tuesday night inside the Food City Center.
The Vols were in a tight battle in the first half. They led by as many as seven points at 18-11, but the Terriers hung tough.
Wofford would trail only 23-21 with 6:11 left in the first half. The Vols then got up 31-23 thanks to three-pointers from Zakai Zeigler and Jordan Gainey. Dalton Knexht hit a layup on the 8-2 run.
However, Wofford once again closed the gap, getting the gap down to 34-31 with 34 seconds left in the half. Jonas Aidoo was able to extend UT’s lead following an offensive rebound and bucket before halftime. UT took a 36-31 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Vols led 36-34, and they went on a run. Aidoo scored two points, Knecht scored six points, Jahmai Mashack scored two points and UT captured a double-digit lead by a score of 46-34.
Wofford would not get within one possession again and UT led by as many as 22 in the second half.
Knecht led the way for the Vols with 18 points. Josiah-Jordan James scored his 100th career point in the game.
The Vols improved to 3-0 on the season and will play Syracuse next as a part of the Maui Invitational on Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m.
