Two softball teams got together and used their socks to support a good cause.
World Down Syndrome Day was Tuesday, but Halls and Powell wore their crazy socks Wednesday to honor one member of the community.
Seven-year-old Gracie Hensley holds a special place in the heart of the Halls community. The Lady Red Devils brought her out before their game against rival Powell and announced her as the team's biggest fan. She stood with the team for the national anthem.
The gesture meant a lot to Coach Kevin Julian and Tanna Hensley, Gracie's sister.
"It meant so much," Hensley said. "It was the coolest thing ever."
Gracie has touched the hearts of the Halls coaching staff.
"She's just a pleasant ray of sunshine for us everyday and we're blessed to have her," Julian said. "We want to make sure that we did something just to raise awareness for what goes on ad how many kids there are with down syndrome."
Halls lost the game, 6-1, but the impact of honoring Gracie will be felt for a long time.
"She's the sweetest kid ever," Hensley said. "I love her more than anything. She's my best friend. It's a blessing. She's getting through, doing well in school. It's cool to have a sister with Down Syndrome."
