KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — After dropping two top 25 games to start the Shriners Children's Clearwater invitational, third-ranked Tennessee softball was looking for a win against Georgia Tech on Saturday. However, the game was canceled in the middle of the 4th inning due to inclement weather conditions.
Tennessee started strong at the top of the first inning. Sophia Nugent's double sent senior left fielder Riley West across the plate off an error by the outfield, making it a 1-0 game early on.
Sophomore Charli Orsini was in the circle for the three innings of defensive play. She totaled two strikeouts, one in the first and one in the third.
At the top of the second, Kiki Milloy broke through the infield, sending Taylor Pannell across the disc to extend UT's lead, 2-0. Milloy didn't have a single hit in the first two invitational games against No. 2 Texas and No. 13 Stanford.
Taylor Pannell went 2-for-2 after hitting an RBI double to left center field. Tennessee was up 4-0.
A rain delay was called after a scoreless fourth inning from the Lady Vols, and the game was postponed. All games were eventually called off for the rest of the day due to bad weather conditions.
After the Yellow Jacket matchup, The Lady Vols were initially supposed to take on No. 22 UCLA later in the day. However, Tennessee will resume play in the Shriners Children's Clearwater invitational on Sunday against No. 8 Florida State at 8 p.m.
