KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Nothing gets the heart of Vol Nation pumping faster than the Pride of the Southland Band playing Tennessee's signature anthem, "Rocky Top."
Fans can look forward to hearing the song ring through "The Shoe" this weekend as Tennessee takes on Ohio State in Columbus. The band had 415 members in 2024, but due to the limited tickets, the University of Tennessee will only be allowed to take 100 musicians.
"I think the students are excited about it because there are two iconic programs, and being able to play in Columbus is something we've — this university — has never done before, and playing Rocky Top and definitely making our presence known," said Michael Stewart, Director for the Pride of the Southland Band.
The Ohio State Band is also known for being one of the best marching bands in the land, but the UT staple said it isn't worried. Kickoff for the game is set for 8 p.m. on Dec. 21.
