I grew up in Oakland Park, Florida, going to games with my dad at Sun Life Stadium, Miami Arena, and BB&T Center. I was always playing whatever sport was in season, but baseball and football were always my favorite.
I graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 2007 and headed to Knoxville to study Sports Journalism at the University of Tennessee. I wrote for TNJN.com, worked with UT Athletics Broadcasting and played baseball for the club team. My last two years at UT, I lived in a 12th floor apartment across from campus with three of my best friends; we could see Neyland Stadium from our living room.
During my last semester at UT in the spring of 2011, I interned in the sports department at WBIR. After graduating I was hired on to cover high school football for our website. After high school football season was over I became a production assistant, running cameras in the studio during the morning show. I worked my way up to news photographer, working for a year shooting news video and running live shots.
In January 2014, I accomplished my dream of working on-air in the sports department when I was named Sports Multimedia Journalist. I'm excited to cover all UT sports as well as the great high school action around East Tennessee.
My favorite pro teams are the Mets, Heat, Dolphins, and Panthers.
I love telling great sports stories and if you have any ideas feel free to email me at pmurray2@wbir.com. You can also follow me on Twitter- @PatMurrayWBIR
