ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — A new park is open in Roane County for anyone who wants to get out and explore the wilderness.
The Caney Creek Recreation Area features a small network of trails that takes hikers into the trees, over a bridge off Hwy 70. The trails connect to a guardhouse and veer off toward power lines in the forest, stopping at Jackson Point near those power lines.
The Roane County Parks and Recreation System announced that the park was open on Jan. 28, and said it would be open from Thursday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. They asked visitors to sign in when they arrived and mark that they left safe once their hikes are over.
The recreation area is located near Caney Creek Marina, located on Watts Bar Lake in Harriman. The marina also gives anglers a chance to take part in shoreline fishing. It also includes three boat ramps where people can park after exploring the water.
