Knoxville company hosting solo adventure race in May, connecting people with community while social distancing

The competition will take participants to Suttree's Landing, Otter Island and Whaley Trail as they virtually race against each other.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Just because people are social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus doesn't mean people can't have fun with their community.

The Knoxville Adventure Collective's new solo adventure race, the Solo De Mayo, will take participants through sections of Knoxville. Participants will have 10 days, between May 1 - 10, to finish three different legs of the race. It will be conducted through the Strava App.

The three legs of the race do not need to be completed on the same day. They are listed below:

  • 3 mile run to Suttree’s Landing
  • 2.2-mile paddle around Otter Island by the Island Home Airport
  • 9.4-mile greenway/mountain bike ride on the West Perimeter/Whaley trails

Each leg starts at Island Home Park. Once participants pay the entree fee and pay the waiver, they will be sent a club link through the app and they will receive a copy of the route.

The entree fee is $25, or $35 if participants rent water equipment.

Knoxville Adventure Collective said there are prizes for first, second and third place. Each participant will also receive a free t-shirt. Anyone who wants to join the race can sign up online.
