TN leaders introduce 'Bike Tennessee,' inviting cyclists to explore new curated routes

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development said it partnered with the Ride with GPS app to lead cyclists through the curated routes.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Cyclists across Tennessee can explore 52 new curated routes through an initiative by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development — Bike Tennessee.

The initiative is the result of a partnership with the Ride with GPS cycling app. With the app, 52 routes were mapped so Bike Tennessee could give people detailed information about the routes such as their terrain and waypoints. Through the Bike Tennessee website, bikers can see the routes displayed on a map of the state.

By clicking on a route, they can find a description of where the route will take them. They can then read about the route's length, elevation range, and the type of terrain. They can also find places to stay and eat along the route, and attractions from the area.

TDTN said the routes were created with help from a cycling guide who works with Velo View Bike Tours. It also said the routes were chosen based on their safety and scenery. The routes include 53 Tennesseee counties and are meant to give experienced bicyclists a chance to experience rural and low-traffic places across the state. Fourteen of the routes are in state parks.
