EUGENE, Ore — The road to Paris is underway and for track and field athletes, it's starting in Oregon. The U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials will take place at Hayward Field from June 21 through June 30.
The University of Tennessee said three of its runners will compete in the trials.
Christian Coleman
Christian Coleman is a junior from Atlanta and has 36 honors including 2017 NCAA Outdoor 100m and 200m Champion, according to Tennessee Athletics. His position is sprints/jumps.
Coleman has two sisters and one of them is a former sprinter/jumper at Georgia Southern, according to Tennessee Athletics. He earned a spot on Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics in the men's 4x100 relay.
He also ran the second leg for Team USA in the 4x100m relay qualifying at the 2016 Rio Olympics as the team won their heat with a time of 37.65 and advanced to the final, Tennessee Athletics said.
Coleman competed in the Men's 100m on Saturday, June 22. He placed 2nd in the first round, advancing to the semifinals on Sunday.
During the semifinals, he placed 3rd, advancing to the finals. However, Coleman did not garner a spot on Team USA after placing 4th in the finals.
Emmanual Bynum
Emmanual Bynum is a fifth-year from Memphis and is a Tennessee state champion in the 200m, according to Tennessee Athletics. His position is sprints.
Bynum has 18 honors including 2023 Outdoor SEC Bronze Medalist - 400m and 2023 Outdoor All-SEC Second Team. He ran track for Whitehaven High School and was the 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year for Tennessee, according to Tennessee Athletics.
Bynum placed 5th in the Men's 400m Heat 2 in Round 1 on Friday, advancing to the semifinals on Sunday, June 23. During the semifinals, he placed 23rd, not advancing to the finals.
Kyla Robinson-Hubbard
Kyla Robinson-Hubbard is a senior from Calabasas, California and one of her honors includes the 2024 Indoor USTFCCCA First Team All-American - 4x400m Relay. Her position is hurdles/sprints.
Robinson-Hubbard helped deliver Tennessee's first 4x400-meter SEC title since 1987, marking a time of 3:24.44, establishing a No. 5 mark on the world list for this year and claiming UT's spot for the seventh-fastest school in NCAA history, according to Tennessee Athletics.
Robinson-Hubbard will compete in the Women's 400m hurdles on Thursday, June 27.
Jacious Spears is also qualified to compete in the Women's 100m and 200m, however, Tennessee Athletics told 10News she will not compete due to an "injury she sustained during the collegiate postseason."
