Here's how Tennessee athletes are doing in the 2024 Paris Olympics

The Olympic Games will run from Friday, July, 26 to Sunday, Aug. 11 on WBIR Channel 10.

PARIS, France — The Paris Olympics is here and several Tennessee athletes are getting the chance to bring home the gold. From swimmers to runners to a break dancer, the athletes are taking the stage to compete for their respective country.

The Olympic Games will run from Friday, July, 26 to Sunday, Aug. 11 on WBIR. Here's how our local athletes did:

Swimming

Saturday, July 27

Erika Connolly - Women's 4 x 100m freestyle relay (Team USA)

Former Tennessee swimmer Erika Connolly has qualified for a spot on Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics as a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay team.

Connolly competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she won a silver medal in the 4x100 medley and a bronze medal in the 4x100 freestyle. She became the sixth Lady Vol swimmer to do so.

RESULTS

Connelly brought home her third career Olympic medal as USA posted a time of 3:30.20 to win silver in the 4x100 free relay, finishing second overall. 

Brooklyn Douthwright - Women's 4 x 100m freestyle relay

Rising senior Brooklyn Douthwright punched her ticket to compete on Team Canada's 4x100 free relay squad for the 2024 Paris Games during the Canadian Olympic Trials.

During the 2023 World Championships, she served as the anchor on the Canadian 800 free relay team that placed fifth. She is a three-time World Junior Medalist, an Olympic Trials Bronze Medalist and a two-time Canadian Champion, according to Tennessee Athletics.

RESULTS

Douthwright qualified for the finals after placing sixth in the preliminaries. In the finals, she placed fifth in the 4x100m freestyle relay in the second heat.

Tjasa Pintar - Women's 4 x 100m freestyle relay

Tjasa Pintar will swim for Slovenia as she competes in her second Olympics. Her first was in 2016 in Rio.

She helped bring home seven total conference medals and was a member of both UT squads that won SEC Championships. Tennessee Athletics said that Pintar ranks sixth in program history in the 100-yard freestyle (47.82) and eighth in the 200 free (1:44.40).

RESULTS

Tjasa Pintar swam in the 4x100 free relay for Slovenia, placing 14th with a mark of 3:41.29. She anchored the relay with a 56.35 effort in her second career appearance at the Summer Games.

Joaquin Vargas - Men's 400m freestyle

The 2020 Tokyo Olympian for Peru, Joaquin Vargas, will participate in the Paris Olympics by competing in the 400m freestyle.

Vargas is a member of Tennessee's 2021 signing class who represented Peru during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, swimming the 200m and 400m freestyles, events in which he owns the Peru National Record, according to Tennessee Athletics.

RESULTS

Vargas finished 29th in the 400m freestyle.

Gretchen Walsh - Women's 100m butterfly & 4x100m freestyle relay (Team USA)

Gretchen Walsh is a six-time 2023 NCAA Gold Medalist who placed fifth overall in the 2020 US Olympic Swimming Trials.

According to Team USA, Gretchen is the youngest swimmer to qualify for the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trails. She also broke the National Age Group record in the 50-yard freestyle for the 13-14 age group.

RESULTS

Walsh placed second with 56.75 time in Heat 4 advancing to the semifinals. In the semis, she qualified for the finals with a 55.38 time.

In the finals, Walsh secured silver after placing second with a 55.63 time.

Walsh along with Kate Douglass, Torri Huske and Simone Manuel won silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay for USA. 

Sunday, July 28

Mona McSharry - Women's 100m breaststroke

Mona McSharry earned her spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after delivering a 1:06.29 time in the 100-meter breast, according to Tennessee Swimming.

That mark set the Irish national record in the event and was the seventh fastest time in the world this year. She also competed in the 200m breast. The Sligo, Ireland, native holds the UT record in both events, Tennessee Athletics said.

RESULTS

McSharry Captured a spot in the 100-meter breaststroke on day two of the Olympics. She broke her Irish career-best time with 1:05.51.  The finals will be on Monday at 3:25 p.m. EDT

Julia Mrozinski - Women's 200m freestyle

During the German Swimming Championships, Julia Mrozinski won silver in the 200m free with a time of 1:57.22, shattering her previous best effort in the event by more than a second and punching her ticket to the Olympic Games, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Mrozinski is a German Champion who is part of Tennessee's second-ranked 2021 signing class, according to SwimSwam. She is also a European Junior Champion and a World Championship finalist.

Mrozinski placed seventh in Heat 4 of the women's 200m freestyle with a 1:59.87 time.

Monday, July 29

Ella Jansen - Women's 400m Individual Medley

A top-ranked recruit in the class of 2024, Ella Jansen qualified for the Paris Summer Games during the Canada Olympic Trials in May. Swimming the 400 IM, Jansen finished second during trials with a 4:38.88 effort time. 

At the same time, her mark of 4:37.35 from the World Aquatic Junior Championships in September was good enough to secure her spot in Paris. 

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

RESULTS

Jansen did not qualify for the finals after placing 11th in the preliminaries with a 4:42.06 time.

Kira Toussaint - Women's 100m backstroke

After competing for the Netherlands at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kira Toussaint is returning to Paris.

At Rio, Toussaint became the first women's swimmer in program history to compete in the Olympics while currently on the Tennessee team, finishing 18th in the 100 back.

In the Tokyo Olympics, she helped the Netherlands to a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 freestyle relay with a 3:33.70 time.

RESULTS

Toussaint did not advance to the finals and placed 14th in the semis with a 1:00.37 time.

Ellen Walshe - 400m Individual Medley

The Irish Olympian and National Champion Ellen Walshe will participate in the Paris Olympics by competing in the 200m and 400m IM. 

Walshe competed for Ireland during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, swimming the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley. She owns the national record in both events, according to Tennessee Athletics.

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

RESULTS

Walshe placed 8th in the 400m individual medley with a 4:40.70 time.

Brody Malone - Gymnastics

Born in Johnson City, 24-year-old Brody Malone is making his second debut at the Paris Olympics.

Malone first competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where he placed fourth on the horizontal bar. He has won two medals at the world championships: A bronze on high bar in 2021 and a gold on high bar in 2022, according to NBC Olympics. He has also won seven U.S. national titles.

He is scheduled to compete in the following events: men's floor exercise, men's vault, men's high bar, men's all-around, men's rings, men's pommel horse, men's parallel bars and men's team.

RESULTS

On Saturday, Malone competed in the men's floor exercise, high bar, vault, parallel bars, pommel horse and rings, but did not qualify in any of the events.

However, the men's team did advance to the finals with a 253.229 score. 

On Monday, Malone put up an impressive high bar routine and scored 14.166. Team USA won Bronze in the team final event, their first team medal since 2008. 

Mona McSharry - Women's 100m breaststroke

McSharry placed third earning a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:05.59. She is the second Irish swimmer ever to win an Olympic medal.

Tuesday, July 30

Jordan Crooks - Men's 100m freestyle

Born in the Cayman Islands, Jordan Crooks has qualified for the Olympic Games after placing seventh in the 50m and 100m freestyle at the 2023 World Championships.

According to Tennessee Athletics, he earned the title of World Champion when he won the 50m freestyle at the 2022 FINA Short Course World Championships, becoming the first swimmer ever from the Cayman Islands to medal at a major championship. 

He is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Crooks placed fifth in the preliminaries, qualifying for the semifinals at 2:36 p.m. EST.

Gui Caribe - Men's 100m freestyle

The rising junior has punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics in the sprint freestyles during the Brazilian Swimming Championships. Before coming to Tennessee, he was a member of the Brazilian Swimming Federation. 

As a freshman, Gui Caribe earned All-America recognition in six events: 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay, according to Tennessee Athletics. 

He is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Caribe placed 12th in the preliminaries, qualifying for the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Lyubomir Epitropov - Men's 200m breaststroke

Lyubomir Epitropov made his Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, competing for Bulgaria in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. 

Epitropov won gold in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2021 SEC Championships, securing his first SEC title. The Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria, native holds the Tennessee school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:52.47, according to Tennessee Athletics.

He is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Epitropov qualified for the semifinals after placing 13th in the preliminaries. He is scheduled to compete at 3:47 p.m. EST.

Martin Espernberger - Men's 200m butterfly

Rising junior Martin Espernberger punched his ticket to compete for the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 1:54.69 effort in the 200m fly during the 2023 Toyota US Open Championships, Tennessee Athletics said. 

Espernberger won his first medal after claiming bronze in the 200m fly during the 2024 World Championships. He represented Austria in the 200m fly at the 2023 World Championships, placing 20th. 

He is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Espernberger placed fifth in the preliminaries, qualifying for the semifinals at 2:41 p.m. EST. 

Lamar Taylor - Men's 100m freestyle

Six-time NCAA Division II National Champion and Tennessee signee Lamar Taylor punched his ticket to the 2024 Olympics in the 100m freestyle for the Bahamas, according to Tennessee Athletics.  

Taylor, who just recently arrived on campus ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, joined the Vols after a successful career at Henderson State, where he won individual national titles in the 50m free, 100m free (twice) and 100m back. 

He is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Taylor did not qualify for the semifinals after placing 26th in the preliminaries with a 48.84 time.

Jillian Crooks - Women's 100m freestyle

Lady Vol swimming signee Jillian Crooks earned a bid to the Paris Olympics for the Cayman Islands, marking her second trip to Paris.

Crooks, the sister of current Tennessee All-American and national champion sprinter Jordan Crooks, represented her nation during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing 41st in the 100 free with a 57.32 effort, according to Tennessee Athletics.

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Crooks did not advance to the semis after placing seventh in Heat 2 of the 100m freestyle.

Gretchen Walsh - Women's 100m freestyle (Team USA)

Gretchen Walsh is a six-time 2023 NCAA Gold Medalist who placed fifth overall in the 2020 US Olympic Swimming Trials.

According to Team USA, Gretchen is the youngest swimmer to qualify for the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trails. She also broke the National Age Group record in the 50-yard freestyle for the 13-14 age group.

She is set to compete in the second heat at 6:42 a.m. EST.

Walsh placed eighth in the preliminaries with a 53.54 time, qualifying for the semifinals at 3:25 p.m. EST. 

Cierra Burdick - Women's 3x3 basketball

Cierra Burdick is the 15th Lady Vol basketball player to earn an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games. 

Burdick, a veteran of the USA 3x3 women's basketball program, becomes the first UT woman to compete in that event at the Olympics. The 2023 gold medalist on the USA's Pan American Games and FIBA World Cup 3x3 squads joins three other Americans to represent the United States.

The team is set to go against Germany at 11:30 a.m. EST.

USA lost to Germany in the pool round, 17-13. Burdick is scheduled to go against Azerbaijan on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. EST.

Wednesday, July 31

Mona McSharry - Women's 200m breaststroke

Cierra Burdick - Women's 3x3 basketball

Cierra Burdick is the 15th Lady Vol basketball player to earn an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games. 

Burdick, a veteran of the USA 3x3 women's basketball program, becomes the first UT woman to compete in that event at the Olympics. The 2023 gold medalist on the USA's Pan American Games and FIBA World Cup 3x3 squads joins three other Americans to represent the United States.

The team is set to go against Azerbaijan at 3:30 p.m. EST.

USA lost to Azerbaijan in the pool round, 20-17. Burdick is scheduled to go against Australia on Thursday at 7 a.m. EST, followed by Spain at 3:30 p.m.

Michelle Alozie - Women's soccer

Michelle Alozie is making her Olympics debut with the Nigerian Women's National Team experience after participating in the 2023 World Cup, 2022 Cup of Nations and three various friendlies from 2021 through 2023, according to Tennessee Athletics. 
 
The La Jolla, California, native currently plays for Houston Dash. During the 2024 season, Alozie has appeared in a vast majority of the club's NWSL games, making 14 appearances and accumulating 735 minutes of playing time. 

Alozie played at Tennessee during the 2019 season after transferring from Yale. In her lone season on Rocky Top, she scored three goals in 17 appearances, Tennessee Athletics said.

Her country is scheduled to go against Japan at 11 a.m.

Alozie's country, Nigeria, lost to Japan, 3-1. This would be the third tournament Alozie has lost since the start of the Olympics.

Martin Espernberger - Men's 200m butterfly (finals)

Rising junior Martin Espernberger punched his ticket to compete for the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 1:54.69 effort in the 200m fly during the 2023 Toyota US Open Championships, Tennessee Athletics said. 

Espernberger won his first medal after claiming bronze in the 200m fly during the 2024 World Championships. He represented Austria in the 200m fly at the 2023 World Championships, placing 20th. 

Espernberger qualified for the semifinals after ranking third in the preliminaries with a 1:55.19 time. In the semis, he placed 8th, securing his spot in the finals. He is scheduled to compete at 2:37 p.m. EST.

Walsh qualified for the semifinals after placing 8th in the preliminaries. In the semis, she placed 8th again, securing her spot in the finals. She is scheduled to compete at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Thursday, Aug. 1

Jordan Crooks - Men's 50m freestyle

Born in the Cayman Islands, Jordan Crooks has qualified for the Olympic Games after placing seventh in the 50m and 100m freestyle at the 2023 World Championships.

According to Tennessee Athletics, he earned the title of World Champion when he won the 50m freestyle at the 2022 FINA Short Course World Championships, becoming the first swimmer ever from the Cayman Islands to medal at a major championship. 

He is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Crooks qualified for the semifinals after placing second in the 50m freestyle with a 21.51 time. 

During the semis, Crooks placed 4th with a 21.54 time, securing his spot in the finals on Friday.

Gui Caribe - Men's 50m freestyle

The rising junior has punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics in the sprint freestyles during the Brazilian Swimming Championships. Before coming to Tennessee, he was a member of the Brazilian Swimming Federation.

Caribe did not qualify for the semifinals after placing 33rd in the preliminaries.

Regan Rathwell - Women's 200m backstroke

Regan Rathwell overcame her injuries to earn the opportunity to appear in her first Summer Games in the 200m back after posting a time of 2:09.38, a full second under the qualifying standard during the Canadian Olympic Trials, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Before coming to Tennessee, Rathwell ranked as the No. 22 overall signee for the class of 2022 and the third-best swimmer from Canada. 

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5:08 a.m. EST.

Rathwell placed 22nd in the preliminaries with a 2:12.21 time, not qualifying for the semifinals.

Cierra Burdick - Women's 3x3 basketball

Cierra Burdick is the 15th Lady Vol basketball player to earn an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games. 

Burdick, a veteran of the USA 3x3 women's basketball program, becomes the first UT woman to compete in that event at the Olympics. The 2023 gold medalist on the USA's Pan American Games and FIBA World Cup 3x3 squads joins three other Americans to represent the United States.

The team is set to go against Australia at 7 a.m. EST, followed by Spain at 3:30 p.m. EST.

USA lost to Australia in the pool round, 17-15. However, USA did defeat Spain, 17-11. The United States is ranked No. 8 in the pool round with a 65 average.

Friday, Aug. 2

Alex Walsh - Women's 200m Individual Medley (Team USA)

The 22-year-old Olympian from Nashville has joined Team USA to participate in her second Olympics. Alex Walsh has a silver from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the 200m Individual Medley.

In the swimming trials, Walsh finished sixth in the 100m breast and third in the 200m breast in personal bests, according to SwimSwam. 

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Walsh has qualified for the semifinals after placing 3rd in the preliminaries with a 2:10.48 time. She is scheduled to compete at 3:29 p.m. EST.

In the semifinals, Walsh placed first, qualifying for the finals on Saturday at 3:01 p.m. EST.

Kayky Mota - Men's 100m butterfly

Kayky Mota will swim for Brazil in the Paris Olympics. During his graduate year, Mota earned All-American status in the 400m medley relay, according to Tennessee Athletics.

He helped the Vols to their best SEC Championships finish since 2001, tying for second. Mota won bronze in the 200m medley relay (1:23.35) and 400m medley relay (3:04.74) at the SEC Championships, swimming the fly leg in both events, Tennessee Swimming said.

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Mota did not advance to the semifinals after placing 22nd in the preliminaries with a 52.11 time.

Ellen Walshe - Women's 200m Individual Medley

The Irish Olympian and National Champion Ellen Walshe will participate in the Paris Olympics by competing in the 200m and 400m IM. 

Walshe competed for Ireland during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, swimming the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley. She owns the national record in both events, according to Tennessee Athletics.

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

RESULTS

Walshe has qualified for the semifinals after placing 15th in the preliminaries with a 2:11.81 time. She is scheduled to compete at 3:29 p.m. EST.

Walshe did not qualify for the finals in the semifinals after placing 13th with a 2:11.35 time.

Jordan Crooks - Men's 50m freestyle

Jordan Crooks continues to reach new heights as he advances to the finals of the men's 50m freestyle in the Paris Olympics. He became the first swimmer ever from the Cayman Islands to qualify for an Olympic final, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Crooks set a Cayman Islands National Record in the 50m free Thursday morning in the preliminaries with a 21.51 time. He was one of four Vols and Lady Vols to compete on Day 6 of the Paris Olympics.

He continued to make history when he clocked a 21.54 mark to secure his spot in Friday's final. 

Crooks is scheduled to compete at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Crooks did not medal in the 50 free after placing 8th with a 21.64 time.

Cierra Burdick - Women's 3x3 basketball

Cierra Burdick is the 15th Lady Vol basketball player to earn an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games. 

Burdick, a veteran of the USA 3x3 women's basketball program, becomes the first UT woman to compete in that event at the Olympics. The 2023 gold medalist on the USA's Pan American Games and FIBA World Cup 3x3 squads joins three other Americans to represent the United States.

The team is set to go against France at 11:30 a.m. EST., followed by Canada at noon EST.

Team USA beat France in the pool round, 14-13. Burdick scored 4 points with 7 rebounds and 1 key assist.

They also defeated Canada, 18-17. Burdick scored 3 points with 5 rebounds and 1 key assist. The United States is now ranked No. 5 in the pool round with a 95 average.

Saturday, Aug. 3

Mona McSharry - Women's 4 x 100m Medley Relay

Mona McSharry earned her spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after delivering a 1:06.29 time in the 100-meter breast, according to Tennessee Swimming.

That mark set the Irish national record in the event and was the seventh fastest time in the world this year. She also competed in the 200m breast. The Sligo, Ireland, native holds the UT record in both events, Tennessee Athletics said. 

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 6:44 a.m. EST.

RESULTS

Team Ireland did not advance to the semifinals after placing 11th in the 4x100m medley relay. The team included McSharry, Danielle Hill, Ellen Walshe and Grace Davison.

Team Ireland finished with a 4:00.12 time in the prelims. McSharry's time was 1:05.38, while Walshe's time was 58.01.

Gretchen Walsh - Women's 50m freestyle(Team USA)

Gretchen Walsh is a six-time 2023 NCAA Gold Medalist who placed fifth overall in the 2020 US Olympic Swimming Trials.

According to Team USA, Gretchen is the youngest swimmer to qualify for the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trails. She also broke the National Age Group record in the 50-yard freestyle for the 13-14 age group.

She is scheduled to compete in the heats at 5 a.m. EST.

Walsh qualified for the semifinals after placing 3rd in the preliminaries with a 24.37 time. 

During the semifinals, Walsh placed 2nd with a 24.17 time, securing her spot in the finals on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EST.

Alex Walsh - Women's 200m IM (Finals)

The 22-year-old Olympian from Nashville has joined Team USA to participate in her second Olympics. Alex Walsh has a silver from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the 200m Individual Medley.

In the swimming trials, Walsh finished sixth in the 100m breast and third in the 200m breast in personal bests, according to SwimSwam. 

Walsh has qualified for the 200m IM semifinals after placing 3rd in the preliminaries with a 2:10.48 time. In the semifinals, she placed first, qualifying for the finals on Saturday at 3:01 p.m. EST.

Walsh was disqualified in the finals. She would have won bronze but announcers said she made an illegal turn. 


Track & Field

Friday, Aug. 2

Charisma Taylor - Women's triple jump

Charisma Taylor will represent the Bahamas in the triple jump at the Paris Olympics.

Taylor is named one of the most versatile athletes in Lady Vol track and field history. Before coming to UT as a graduate student, she won gold at the NACAC U23 Championships in the triple jump and appeared at nine outdoor meets for Washington State, collecting eight first-place finishes during 2021.

Javonya Valcourt - Mixed 4x400m relay

Javonya Valcourt will represent the Bahamas in the mixed 4x400m relay.

Before coming to Tennessee, Valcourt ran track at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida during the 2022 indoor and outdoor seasons. She also won the 2022 FHSAA Outdoor State Finals championship in the 400m dash with a time of 55.33 during her senior season, according to Tennessee Athletics. 

She is scheduled to start in the first round at 1:10 p.m. EST.

Bahamas fell to 13th place in the first round of the mixed relay. The team included Valcourt, Alonzo Russell, Uincy Penn and Wendell Miller.

Joella Lloyd - Women's 100m

The five-time All-American will represent Antigua and Barbuda in her second Olympic appearance. 

Joella Lloyd appeared at four meets during the 2023 indoor campaign. At the SEC Championships, she placed seventh in the 60m with a time of 7.34, according to Tennessee Athletics. She also placed first in the 60m at the Tiger Paw Invitational with a time of 23.43.

She is scheduled to start in the preliminary round at 4:35 a.m. EST.

Lloyd placed 42nd overall in the first round of the 100-meter with an 11.37 time. 

Harrison Williams - Men's Decathlon

Memphis-native Harrison Williams qualified for Paris after placing third in the decathlon with 8,384 points at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trial.

Williams ruptured his plantar fascia during the pole vault the last time around at the U.S. Olympic Trials and missed qualifying for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team, according to Team USA. 

A decathlon is a combined ten-discipline track and field event held over two days. Williams will compete in the following events:

  • 100m at 4:13 a.m. EST
  • Long jump at 4:55 a.m. EST 
  • Shot put at 6:15 a.m. EST
  • High jump at noon EST
  • 400m at 3:06 p.m. EST

Williams ranked first in Heat 2 of the 100m with 947 points and 10.62 time. In the long jump, he ranked second with 915 points. In the shot put, Williams ranked first with 830 points. 

Saturday, Aug. 3

Davonte Howell - Men's 100m

After a strong and steady freshman campaign for the Vols in 2024, 18-year-old Davonte Howell will represent the Cayman Islands in the 100m dash at the Paris Olympics.

The sophomore finished his freshman year by competing in eight meets and earned a spot to take part in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, according to Tennessee Athletics.

He is scheduled to start in the preliminary round at 4:35 a.m.

Howell qualified for the first round after placing 4th with a 10.31 time. However, in the first round, he placed 39th with a 10.24 time.

Harrison Williams - Men's Decathlon

Memphis-native Harrison Williams qualified for Paris after placing third in the decathlon with 8,384 points at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trial.

In the 110m hurdles, Williams placed 8th in Heat 3 with a 14.28 time. In the discus throw, he earned 806 points after three attempts, ranking 2nd in the first group. For pole vault, Williams ranked 3rd overall earning 941 points.

In the javelin throw, Williams ranked 10th in his group, earning 606 points after three attempts. Finally, in the 1500m dash, Williams ranked 7th overall with 4:19.58 time. In total, Williams racked in 8,538 points.

Cierra Burdick - Women's 3x3 basketball

Cierra Burdick is the 15th Lady Vol basketball player to earn an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games. 

Burdick, a veteran of the USA 3x3 women's basketball program, becomes the first UT woman to compete in that event at the Olympics. The 2023 gold medalist on the USA's Pan American Games and FIBA World Cup 3x3 squads joins three other Americans to represent the United States.

Team USA did not have a great start in the pool round after losing to Germany, Azerbaijan and Australia. But Team USA had a comeback after defeating Spain, France and Canada.

Team USA will play their final group stage game on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. EST

Team USA defeated China in the pool round, 14-12. They will go against China again in the play-in round at 4:05 p.m. EST. In this round, Team USA has the chance to advance to the semifinals on Monday.

Sunday, Aug. 4

Stamatia Scarvelis - Women's hammer throw

Stamatia Scarvelis is considered one of the best throwers in program history after earning her spot on the Greece track and field roster for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the hammer throw, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Scarvelis will return to the Olympics stage representing Greece to compete in the hammer throw.

She is scheduled to compete in the qualification round at 4:20 a.m. EST.

Carey McLeod - Men's long jump

The 2022 Tennessee graduate will make his second Olympic appearance for Jamaica, competing in the men's long jump. 

Carey McLeod was one of just two athletes in the world to have qualified for both the long jump and the triple jump in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, according to Tennessee Athletics. Before coming to Tennessee, he jumped at Kingston College in Kingston, Jamaica. He is also a Pan American 4x100m silver medalist.

He is scheduled to compete in the qualification round at 5 a.m. EST.

McLeod leaped to a distance of 7.90 meters, securing his spot in the finals on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 2:15 EST.

Christopher Bailey - Men's 400m

The former Vol quarter-miler will make his Olympic debut for Team USA in the 400m and 4x400m relay. 

In 2022, Christopher Bailey made his season debut at the Tyson Invitational, running on the men's 4x400m relay.  He also earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors as a member of Tennessee's 4x400m relay.

Gretchen Walsh - Women's 4x100m Medley Relay

Gretchen Walsh is a six-time 2023 NCAA Gold Medalist who placed fifth overall in the 2020 US Olympic Swimming Trials.

According to Team USA, Gretchen is the youngest swimmer to qualify for the 2016 US Olympic Swimming Trails. She also broke the National Age Group record in the 50-yard freestyle for the 13-14 age group.

Walsh has had a great run since the start of the Olympics after securing two silver medals, one in women's 4x100m freestyle relay and another in 100m butterfly. She also won gold for Team USA in the mixed 4x100m medley relay on Saturday.

Monday, Aug. 5

Clement Ducos - Men's 400m hurdler

The fastest 400m hurdler in Tennessee history will make his Olympic debut for France this summer, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Before coming to Tennessee, Clement Ducos was a member of the French U23 national team and won an indoor national title in the 400m dash, clocking in at 47.27 seconds. He also won bronze in the 60m hurdles at the 2022 French U23 Indoor Championships, breaking eight seconds for the second-straight race with a PR 7.98 in the final, Tennessee Athletics said.

He is scheduled to compete in the first round at 4:05 a.m. EST.

Charisma Taylor - Women's 100m hurdles

Charisma Taylor will represent the Bahamas in the 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.

Taylor is named one of the most versatile athletes in Lady Vol track and field history. Before coming to UT as a graduate student, she won gold at the NACAC U23 Championships in the triple jump and appeared at nine outdoor meets for Washington State, collecting eight first-place finishes during 2021.

She is scheduled to start in the first round at 4:31 a.m. EST.

Jah-Nhai Perinchief - Men's triple jump

Jah-Nhai Perinchief is set to make his Olympic debut for Bermuda in Paris. The Tennessee graduate student will compete in the men's triple jump.

Before coming to Tennessee, Perinchief competed at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships, taking seventh place in the high jump and was an NJCAA All-American seven times.

He is scheduled to compete in the qualification round at 1:15 p.m. EST.

Before coming to Tennessee, Coleman won the 100m, 200m, and long jump, anchoring his 4x100m team to victory at the state championship.

Bailey, Team USA finished the Paris Olympics by securing gold in the men's 4x400m final with a 2:54.43 time. This is his first Olympic medal.

Other Events 

Brody Malone - Gymnastics

Born in Johnson City, 24-year-old Brody Malone is making his second debut at the Paris Olympics.

Malone first competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where he placed fourth on the horizontal bar. He has won two medals at the world championships: A bronze on high bar in 2021 and a gold on high bar in 2022, according to NBC Olympics. He has also won seven U.S. national titles.

He is scheduled to compete in all six events in the team event. In the first event on July 27, Team USA took fifth place. He will next compete on July 29 for a chance at a medal in the Team Finals.

RESULTS

Malone, Team USA, took home the bronze in the men's team final on Monday, July 29. The team included Malone, Paul Juda, Frederick Richard, Asher Hong and Stephen Nedoroscik.

Team USA earned bronze for their first medal since 2008, a massive win for the U.S. facing strong competition from powerhouse nations Japan and China.

Sunny Choi - Breakdancing

Sunny Choi, born in Cookeville, will be the first female break dancer to represent the United States in the Olympics. She won silver in the 2022 World Games. 

She is scheduled to compete in the women's qualification round on Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. EST.

RESULTS

Choi did not advance to the quarterfinals after receiving low scores in the round-robin phase. In this phase, groups of four breakers faced off against each other one by one. The judges evaluated the breakers on these four elements: Toprock, footwork, power move and freeze.

Choi went against China, the Netherlands and Portugal.

Olivia Reeves - Weightlifting

Olivia Reeves will take the Olympic stage in Paris in the women's 71kg competition.

Over the last two years, Reeves soared to the top of the professional weightlifting scene, earning two bronze medals (2023 Pan American Championships, 2023 World Championships) and two gold medals (2023 Pan American Games, 2024 IWF World Cup) on the international stage, according to NBC Olympics.

As a junior competitor, she also put up two silver-earning performances (2019 Youth World Games, 2022 Junior World Championships) and two gold-winning ones (2021 Junior Pan American Games, 2021 Junior World Championships).

She is scheduled to compete in the women's 71kg on Aug. 9 at 1:30 p.m. EST.

RESULTS 

Reeves secures gold in the women's 71kg event. She scored 117 points in snatch and 145 in clean and jerk, totaling 262 points. This is the University of Chattanooga student's first Olympic gold medal and it's the first gold won in the event since 2000.

Wes Kitts - Weightlifting

Knoxville native Wes Kitts qualified to compete in Paris on April 8 and will be one of two men from the U.S. to compete in the heavyweight category. 

Kitts made his first Olympic team and was one of four men to represent the U.S. in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kitts finished eighth in the men's heavyweight category.

He is scheduled to compete in the men's 102kg on Aug. 10 at 5:30 a.m. EST.

Kitts placed 8th in the 102-kilogram weightlifting. He lifted 172 kilograms in the snatch and then lifted 202 in the clean and jerk, adding up to a total of 374 kilograms.
