At the back of the line at selfie central aka the Olympic Rings!
Bet ya didn't know my hidden talent is pole vaulting!!!
Friday, Aug. 5
The Opening Ceremony on Friday evening helped kick off the 2016 Olympic Games! Producers felt like they created a message of great worth, even though they didn't have as much money to use compared to past host cities.
We saw plenty of VFLs during Friday's festivities, including some selfies featuring Tamika Catchings, Molly Hannis and her Team USA swimming teammates.

Hanging out with the Today Show!! More on this to come!

You will be seeing these Olympic venues lots over the next couple of weeks. Jim Matheny and I got a first look at the stadiums in Olympic Park. This is where swimming, gymnastics and basketball among other sports will take place.
As we were walking around you couldn't help but notice lots of construction still going on. The clock is ticking to Opening Ceremonies!
And you never know who you might run into Rio! As we were standing at the Olympic Rings we saw Brooke Fraiser who is from Knoxville and is a UT grad. She was also an intern at WBIR. Now Brooke works for NBC in NYC. It's a small world after all.

This is my home for the next 23 days. The Olympic media village is about a 30-minute drive (when traffic is good) to the main Olympic venue and the International Broadcast Center. That's where Jim and I will be working primarily when we aren't shooting stories.
The media village is a newly built condo complex that houses journalists from around the world here in Rio to cover the games. When we pick up and leave after the Olympics the condos will be rented/sold to locals. There is still lots of construction going on here.
Our rooms are small but comfortable. We have a cafeteria style restaurant. I felt like I was back in high school when I went through the line this morning!!! There is also a convenience store...thank goodness!!!! I needed to buy an extra converter.
And....there is an AWESOME pool. Too bad there is no time to swim!
