PARIS, France — Jordan Crooks continues to reach new heights as he advances to the finals of the men's 50m freestyle in the Paris Olympics. He became the first swimmer ever from the Cayman Islands to qualify for an Olympic final, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Crooks set a Cayman Islands National Record in the 50m free Thursday morning in the preliminaries with a 21.51 time. He was one of four Vols and Lady Vols to compete on Day 6 of the Paris Olympics.

He continued to make history when he clocked a 21.54 mark to secure his spot in Friday's final.

Crooks is the first swimmer from the Cayman Islands to make a final, and with the No. 4 seed, he will be in contention to become the country's first-ever Olympic medalist, regardless of sport.

That race will open Friday's finals session at 2:30 p.m. EST.
