NBC and multiple media outlets report the Houston Texans are parting ways with four-time Pro Bowl running back and former Tennessee Volunteer Arian Foster.

The Texans have informed Foster they are going to release him, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Foster, 29, had his worst season in 2015. He played in just four games and gaining just 163 on 63 carries, an average of 2.6 yards per carry.

In late February, Texans general manager Rick Smith said Foster's $6.5 million salary wouldn't be the reason to release him.

Foster tore his groin in training camp, forcing him to miss the first three games of the 2015-2016 regular season.

After playing four games, Foster suffered a torn Achilles in October. The injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Foster attended the University of Tennessee from 2004-2008 (he redshirted in 2004). He finished second on Tennessee's all-time rushing list with 2,964 yards and third in career all-purpose yards with 3,880.

In a September 2013 Sports Illustrated article, Foster admitted to taking money during his senior season at Tennessee.

Foster said there were times when he had to choose whether to pay rent or buy food. He also said it was tough knowing how much money the university made off his efforts on the field.
