KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football fell just short of making the College Football Playoff last season with two losses on their resume as the regular season came to a close.

Sources tell WBIR Vols insider and national college football writer for footballscoop.com John Brice that Michigan may have played a part in UT's season last year, with the sign stealing they've been accused of and are now under investigation for.

Sources told Brice this week that the Wolverines may have scouted SEC foes last season, including Georgia and Tennessee, as potential College Football Playoff adversaries. A source with direct knowledge indicated to FootballScoop that Michigan may have attempted to help the opposition of a potential CFP opponent to disrupt that team's potential path to the playoff — such as Tennessee.

Head coach Josh Heupel was asked in his Thursday press conference whether he would like to see signals sent directly to player's helmets instead of using signs to get the team the plays on the field.

"That's come up over the last several years and for whatever reason it hasn't passed at this level," Heupel said. "With everything that has gone on, it will probably get brought up again and I anticipate it passing."

Brice reports that the NCAA could potentially try using that sort of communication from the coaches to players during bowl season.
