Tennessee shortstop Mackenzie Donihoo stepping away from softball due to health

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — Tennessee shortstop Mackenzie Donihoo announced on her social media on Wednesday that she is stepping away from softball due to health complications.

She wrote that due to lingering injuries and giving it thought, she has decided not to play.

She started 61 games for the Lady Vols last season at shortstop, helping lead the team to a SEC regular season championship, a SEC Tournament title and a trip to the Women's College World Series. Donihoo hit .266 on the year with 53 runs scored and knocked a team-leading 15 doubles. She also hit seven home runs. 

"It was a privilege and an honor to win two SEC titles and help return Tennessee softball to the women's  College World Series," Donihoo wrote in her post.

She played her senior season with the Lady Vols after playing her first three for Oklahoma.
