Three East Tennesseans to be inducted into TSSAA Hall of Fame

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Oak Ridge coach Joe Gaddis, Fulton coach Jody Wright and official Jerry McCarter are among the eight members of the TSSAA Hall of Fame class of 2024, the organization announced Friday.

Longtime Oak Ridge coach and current athletic director Joe Gaddis spent 39 years as a high school football head coach at seven different programs. He compiled an overall record of 334-146 and went 296-105 in Tennessee, where he led Oak Ridge to a state championship victory in 1991 and a state finals appearance in 2020.

Fulton basketball head coach and athletic director Jody Wright began his coaching career at Fulton back in the 1980s and has led the program to nearly four decades of success. The Falcons have reached the state tournament 20 times throughout his coaching tenure and the team has captured state championships in 2008, 2009, 2016 and 2023. The team also finished as state runner-up in five other seasons.

Jerry McCarter started his career in sports officiating with the TSSAA in 1968 and took over as the supervisor in the Knoxville South Basketball Officials Association in 1999 and held the position for 20 years.

The 2024 TSSAA Hall of Fame luncheon will be held at the Student Union building on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro on Monday, April 8.
