Tennessee women's basketball defeats Auburn in SEC opener, 75-67

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee women's basketball came alive in the third quarter to take down Auburn in its first game of SEC play on Thursday night at Neville Arena in Auburn, Ala.

The Lady Vols dug themselves into a hole at halftime with 14 turnovers and trailed by eight points, but a third-quarter rally propelled them into the lead and Tennessee held off the Tigers for a 75-67 win and their fourth victory in a row.

Rickea Jackson and Jasmine Powell led the Lady Vols on a 13-0 run in the third quarter to take the advantage, and Tennessee outscored Auburn 22-8 in the third frame. Jackson finished the game with a staggering 24 points and a career-high 19 rebounds to snap Auburn's eight-game win streak.

Powell posted 16 points in the win, while fellow guard Kaiya Wynn dropped ten points along with six assists and five rebounds to round out the double-digit scorers for Tennessee.

Tennessee began SEC play win a victory for the tenth-straight season, and will return home to host Kentucky on Sunday, Jan. 7 at noon in the Food City Center.
