KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee softball infielder Taylor Pannell has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Pannell capped off the Lady Vols' regular season with a stellar performance at the plate, going 7-for-13 with three home runs and nine RBIs during Tennessee's three-game sweep against Kentucky.
The redshirt freshman helped Tennessee capture its second-straight SEC regular season crown with a home run in all three of the Lady Vols' games against the Wildcats, including the walk-off winner on Sunday to propel Tennessee to a series sweep.
The SEC Freshman of the Week honor is the first weekly award for Pannell and is the sixth weekly award for a Lady Vol this season.
Tennessee is the top seed in the SEC Tournament this week and will play its first game in Auburn, Ala. on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. EDT.
