FORT WORTH, Texas — Tennessee second baseman Christian Moore became the first Vol picked in the 2024 MLB Draft when he was selected eighth overall by the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday night at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.
Christian Moore is now the highest-drafted Tennessee baseball player in the Tony Vitello era, and the highest-drafted Vol since Nick Senzel in 2016.
This is the third year in a row Tennessee has produced one or more first-round pick, after Chase Dollander in 2023 and Drew Gilbert and Jordan Beck in 2022.
Moore etched himself in the Tennessee record books in 2024 and led a high-powered offense that helped the Vols to their first-ever national championship. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native set a new record with 34 home runs in a season and also set a new career record with 61 home runs.
The All-American honoree started all 72 games for the Vols and posted a .375 batting average along with 111 hits and 74 RBIs. Throughout his three-year career at Tennessee, Moore started 162 of 186 games with a .338 batting average, 212 hits and 160 RBIs.
