Tennessee football releases first depth chart of the season

The Vols were not very decisive in announcing their starting lineups on Monday, with a concrete starter listed at just three positions.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee football was not quite ready to put all its chips on the table when it released its first depth chart of the season on Monday.

The Vols are undecided on a definitive starter at 23 of 29 positions, according to the depth chart. The only positions that have been decided are:

  • Starting QB: Nico Iamaleava
  • Starting center: Cooper Mays
  • Starting right guard: Javontez Spraggins
  • Starting punter: Jackson Ross
  • Starting holder: Jackson Ross
  • Starting kickoff kicker: Josh Turbyville

Tennessee notably listed All-American edge rusher James Pearce Jr. as the only potential starter at the team's LEO position, and Dylan Sampson as the only potential starter at running back, along with Cameron Seldon, DeSean Bishop, Khalifa Keith and Peyton Lewis.

Tennessee has listed Cameron Seldon and DeSean Bishop as potential starting kicker returners, while Squirrel White, Jermod McCoy and Boo Carter will battle for the starting punt return job.

The Vols will have no choice but to sort out their starting lineup by the end of the week because Tennessee begins its season against Chattanooga on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 12:45 p.m. inside Neyland Stadium.
