KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The College Football Playoff selection committee revealed its first CFP rankings of the season on Tuesday night, with Tennessee ranked No. 7.
The new-look College Football Playoff will feature a 12-team field at the end of the season. Those teams will consist of the five highest-ranked conference champions, along with seven at-large bids among the highest-ranked remaining teams. The four highest seeds will receive a first-round bye.
Undefeated Oregon sits atop the first CFP rankings of the season, while Ohio State, Georgia and Miami round out the top four.
The Vols have won their last three contests, most recently a 28-18 win against Kentucky at home. Tennessee's most pivotal matchup down the stretch will be against Georgia on the road on November 16. That game may very well determine the Vols' CFP destiny, as well as their fate in the SEC Championship game.
Tennessee will stay home against Mississippi State on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
The first round of the College Football Playoff will begin on Friday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 21.
